The Technical Services Department

The Technical Services Department is headed by a Senior librarian. This department is referred to as the engine room of the library, because it is the department that is responsible for the acquisition and processing of all library materials. Technical services department include book online catalogue, creation and maintenance of MARC records in the catalogue. Not only this, technical department are also saddles with the responsibility of ensuring the provision of adequate security of library materials right from the start of processing. In order to achieve the effectiveness of the aforementioned, the technical department of the library has the following sections:


Acquisitions Section: It is a section that is saddled with the responsibility of how books and other library materials are acquired for the library. The section is also responsible for the following: ordering, receiving, invoice payment, subscription maintenance (including renewals, claiming, serial check in, and updates) and processing of donations. So it seeks and solicits to enjoy the cooperation of the academic staff as well as students in its crucial task of stock building.

Cataloguing and classification Section: It is the section that provides a means of bringing all books on the same subject together in a place. The staff are responsible for the cataloguing and classification of all the OSUSTECH library materials using Library of Congress Classification Scheme, Resource Description and Access (RDA), Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH), online cataloguing and the MARC21 exchange format.
